Resupply mission to Kalayaan sent off

The Naval Forces West (NFW) led by it’s Commander, Commo. Sean Anthony U Villa AFP conducted the send-off ceremony of the NFW Mission Team personnel composed of Sailors, Marines, Civilian Employees and representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE) and Shell Philippines at the Oyster Bay Detachment (OBD) pier, Brgy Bahile, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on April 28, 2019.

The send-off ceremony is conducted to honor the members of the mission team and the ship crew prior their departure. Their main mission is to resupply the foods and drinking water of the NFW personnel defending the Philippine island detachments in the Kalayaan Island Group (KIG). The Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas (BRP) Benguet (LS507), one of the remaining Philippine Landing Tank Ship commanded by Lt. Cmdr. Rolando Z Borromeo is task to safely transport the Mission Team to the abovementioned island detachments.

Commo. Villa reminded every sailors and marines attending the ceremony especially personnel that will be assigned to these Island detachments to be vigilant of their respective duties and responsibilities as “Defenders of the Country’s Western Frontier”.

Moreover, personnel from the DOE and Shell Philippines joined the team to look into themselves the conditions of the troops living in these island territories.

The Western Command through NFW continues to perform its mandate of protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of country. Thus, it continuously conduct maritime patrols design to protect the maritime domain and to ensure the safety and well-being of marines and sailors stationed in these far-flung detachments.
