“I’m sure the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) is already validating that given that it is being reported by no less than a senator of the Republic,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said during MArch 5 press conference when asked about Senator Ping Lacson’s information that around 2000 to 3000 members of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are in the Philippines.
“We are always alarmed with respect to national interest issue,” Panelo said when asked if the information is a cause of concern or alarm.
“Since he himself said it has to be validated, then it’s a raw intelligence report on his part. Then we have to investigate,” Panelo said.
Senator Lacson revealed that he received information about the Chinese PLA members, however, he noted that the information needs to be validated.
“The information na shinare ko kay Senator Gordon, na talagang a good number of PLA – unvalidated ito ha, subject for validation – and we’re talking here of 2,000 to 3,000, ‘yun ang number na nabanggit,” Senator Lacson told senate reporters on March 4.
“Pero kailangan invalidate natin. Hindi naman ito confirmed and I urge the intelligence community to confirm,” he clarified.
“Baka nasa immerssion mission,” the senator said. “For what purpose hindi pa rin natin alam.”
