Repair of Pag-asa Island airfield next as port becomes operational

With the operation of the port in Pag-asa Island in West Philippine Sea, rehabilitation and concreting of Rancudo Airfield becomes possible.

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said, in a report by PNA May 29, that the beaching ramp is 97 percent finished and “for all intent and purposes, it’s complete.”

“The next phase is for the repair and concreting of the runway and we expect this to be complete in a year’s time from the time the contract is signed. Separate project kasi ‘yung runway,” Secretary Lorenzana said.

With operational port, transporting materials and equipment into the island becomes easier.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade earlier said a turn over ceremony for the port is scheduled on June 12, Independence Day.

“Handa na hong mag-turnover ‘yung Provincial Government of Palawan na iturnover sa amin ‘yon sa June 12,” Secretary Tugade said during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacañang on May 28, 2020.
