The result of the feasibility for the fourth bridge connecting Mactan Island and mainland Cebu is expected to be available early this year. This proposed fourth bridge will have provision for rails.
According to Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is completing the feasibility study.
“It will be the fourth bridge. JICA kasi gumawa ng first two bridges ng Cebu, so we are all interested to do a fourth one,” Villar said at the sidelines of the fourth Philippines-Japan High Level Joint Committee on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation meeting held at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
“First of all, the fourth bridge will help traffic problems in Cebu. But we are planning to have provisions for rails on the bridge so it will be consistent with the mass transit program of Cebu,” he added.
Meanwhile, the construction of third Mactan Island-mainland Cebu bridge, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), is expected to start this year. This 3rd bridge is expected to be completed in 2020.
