President Rodrigo Duterte visited the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City on evening of August 26, National Heroes’ Day.
During his visit President Duterte lighted a candle in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He also offered a prayer for the fallen heroes, the Office of the President said.
House of Representatives Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano represented President Duterte during the National Heroes’ Day commemoration earlier that day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“We dedicate this day most especially to those unnamed heroes who have also shed blood, sweat, and tears in defense of this nation and the values that it represents,” the President said in his National Heroes’ Day message.
“As we commemorate National Heroes Day, I call on my fellow Filipinos to emulate the patriotism of all those heroes who came before us by supporting the government’s nation-building efforts, especially our campaign against illegal drugs, criminality, corruption, terrorism, poverty, and environmental degradation,” he added.
