President Rodrigo Duterte today, January 14 sent off BRP Davao del Sur (LD602) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS16) to help repatriate Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in the Middle East.
Around 1,000 members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who are part of the contingent, Joint Task Force “Pagpauli”, will be assisting in the repatriation.
“I think ‘yung crew ng both ships, 130 each ‘yan eh and then ‘yung almost a hundred din ‘yung… kasi kasama ‘yung medical team, ‘yung SEAL, ‘yung mga repair team, basta isang task group na pupunta,” Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said as quoted by GMA News Online.
“Based sa guidance ni President is to bring back affected Filipino people from the Middle East sa atin,” Empedrad added.
National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana earlier said that the Philippine contingent “will be in civilian attire and will not be armed should they be needed on the ground.”
