President Duterte is in ‘perpetual isolation’ – Roque

Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque has debunked unconfirmed report that President Rodrigo Duterte left the country on Saturday to seek emergency medical care in Singapore. Roque also explained that the President is in “perpetual isolation” to prevent close contacts.

“His health is fine,” Secretary Roque said during August 17 press briefing.

He noted that the scheduled meeting with President Duterte in Davao City was cancelled in compliance with health protocols because Interior Secretary Eduardo Año tested positive of COVID-19.

Roque also explained that President Duterte had no close contact with Secretary Año.

“Ako kasi, the reason why I went on self isolation is a personal decision kasi kasabay ko rin sa eroplano si Sec Año. Pero ang Presidente naman po technically wala siyang close contact. If we will go by the book, hindi siya nagclose contact dahil malayo kami lahat kay Presidente at naka face shield at naka face mask,” Roque explained.

“The President is in perpetual isolation because no one can come close to him. Whenever we meet with him there is a velvet rope that keeps him at least 6 feet away from everyone else,” the presidential spokesperson said.

“He is in perpetual isolation in the sense that PSG has done a very good job in making sure that no one comes really close to the President,” Roque said.

He added that President Duterte regularly undergoes PCR test.
