President Rodrigo Duterte has arrived from South Korea after attending the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Busan from November 25 to 26.
President Duterte lauded President Moon Jae-in’s New Southern Policy, describing it as a timely and forward-looking initiative that complements the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) Vision 2025.
President Duterte also expressed elation over the Republic of Korea’s interest to work with ASEAN countries in enhancing connectivity under its New Southern Policy.
“This is progress that comes with a set of challenges in infrastructure and delivery of basic services. Through the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), we would like to learn from Korea’s best practices and innovations in smart city development,” he said at the second session of the summit.
Moreover, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Duterte extended the invitation to visit the Philippines to President
Moon during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of 2019 Association of Southeast Asian Nations-Republic of Korea (Asean-ROK) Commemorative Summit.
