The Philippine National Police (PNP) is recruiting 2,000 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers to boost operations against communist terrorists and other terrorist groups. This was revealed by PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa in a report by Radyo Pilipinas.
General dela Rosa said 2,000 SAF troopers are equivalent to 5 battalions that can be used for internal security operations in support to Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) effort to naturalize NPA and other terror threats.
The PNP chief said the recruitment of new SAF troopers is in accordance to President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to strengthen elite forces.
Meanwhile, General dela Rosa attended today the installation of new batch of SAF troopers in the New Bilibid Prison.
SAF troopers helping to secure the NBP are regularly rotated to avoid familiarization with inmates.
