The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be recruiting 15,000 police officers this year. PNP Chief of Directorial Staff Police Deputy Director General Archie Gamboa said the 10,000 will be under the annual recruitment.
The additional 5,000 will be to fill-up vacancies caused by retirement, resignation, attrition, and dismissal from police service.
“Our projection is that by the end of this year, we will have 205,000 uniformed personnel… so we are nearing to the standard policeman to population ratio,” Gamboa said as quoted by Manila Bulletin.
An entry level police officer or Police Officer 1 now has a monthly base pay of PHP29,668.
PDDG Gamboa added that the PNP will procure 60,000 to 70,000 units of firearms.
“But as of this year, we are buying almost 60,000 to 70,000 units. If we will be able to pursue that then we will be able to fill up the gun shortage, we will have one firearm for every policeman,” he said.
