PNP receives new equipment, Israeli light machine guns

On February 1, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has procured 45,457 units of different type of equipment for transportation to documentation.

PNP National Headquarters Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) conducted the presentation and blessing of equipment on the said date at the NCRPO Grandstand, Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City. Some of the 45,457 procured equipment were already delivered to end users.

Among the equipment PNP procured were units of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Negev 5.56×45mm NATO light machine gun.

These machine guns along with light transport vehicles, anti-riot shields, helmets and body armors and undershirt vests will be distributed to “police stations and police mobile forces to enhance operational readiness and personal protection during police operations in the campaign against terrorism, illegal drugs and criminality, both in the urban and rural settings,” the PNP said.

Meanwhile, Marawi City police will receive personnel carriers, motorcycles, SOCO vans, light transport vehicles and pick up 4×4 trucks.

“On the other hand, investigative equipment will be issued to investigation units to enhance investigative and SOCO capability,” PNP said.

“With Php6.4 Billion released for Fiscal Year 2017, the PNP was able to attain an absorptive capacity of 98.81% in its procurement of various police equipment which were already delivered,” PNP said.
