PMA valedictorian gets house and lot

Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Alab Tala’ (Alagad ng Lahing Binigkis ng Tapang at Lakas) Class of 2018 valedictorian was awarded with a house and lot from former Senate President Manny Villar.

Cadet First Class Jaywardene Hontoria, 25 years old from Iloilo, bested all his 281 mistahs.

He received the Presidential Saber Award from President Rodrigo Duterte during the commencement ceremony held today at Fort General Gregorio Del Pilar in Baguio City.

He also received the Chief of Staff Saber, Philippine Navy Saber, academic group award, Australian Defense Best Overall Performance Award, Spanish Armed Forces Award, Humanities Plaque, Natural Sciences Plaque, Social Sciences Plaque, JUSMAG award, and the Department of Leadership Plaque.

Hontoria also broke the 67-year drought of producing a ‘baron’ or the class brigade commander of the PMA Cadet Corps to graduate as class valedictorian. The First Captain or more commonly called as the “Baron” is the most ranking cadet in the Corps – in civilian terms, he is equivalent to any organization’s president.

He is the third baron in the history of PMA to graduate at the top of his class.

Hontoria will be serving in the Philippine Navy.
