“I am asking the National Government to PLEASE consider delaying the taxation of online trading or selling. This is for the benefit of small business entrepreneurs,” Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said in a statement August 24.
He said that during this period of uncertainty online sellers are barely making a profit. “Mga dating piloto, guro, at iba’t ibang propesyonal na nawalan ng trabaho ay naghahanapbuhay ngayon sa pamamagitan ng online selling,” the governor said.
“Rather than impose taxes, we should create programs, encourage and inspire people to shift to the new digital economy,” Governor Remulla said.
“The Philippines is beset with issues of corruption left and right. PhilHealth is just one of the many systemic injustices imposed by those in power vs. those in need. The government should use its resources into finding, charging, and structurally improving the system, across the board,” Remulla said.
“If we are successful in this endeavor then maybe paying taxes will be worth it for everyone,” he added.
