National Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana and Chief of the Philippine Navy Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad together with other Filipino officials attended the Steel Cutting Ceremony for Philippine Navy’s first of two frigates in South Korea ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The ceremony marked the beginning of the warship’s construction. The frigate is expected to be delivered second half 2020.
It was reported earlier last month that a committee under the DND approved the Critical Design Review (CDR) of the PHP18-billion Frigate Acquisition Project (FAP)
The CDR will serve as the “bible” of the shipbuilder while constructing the frigates.
