The Cavite Gateway Terminal, the first barge terminal in the Philippines, is 91% complete, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on May 21.
“The Cavite Gateway Terminal will be the first barge terminal in the country, which will allow trans-shipment of cargo from Manila port to Cavite via barges,” DOTr said.
“This will reduce the number of trucks plying Metro Manila and reduce road traffic once the terminal starts its operations,” it added.
Cavite Gateway Terminal is being developed in a six-hectare property in Brgy. Capipisa in Tanza, Cavite.
The project aims to reduce the number of trucks plying Metro Manila roads or approximately 140,000 fewer truck trips annually.
The DOTr and the International Container Services, Inc. (ICTSI) held the groundbreaking ceremony of Cavite Gateway Terminal in April 2017.
