The Philippine Army and United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) will be holding and army-to-army theater security cooperation exercise dubbed as Exercise Salaknib (SK). 1,600 Filipino and American soldiers are participating.
According to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Colonel Noel Detoyato the Filipino contingent will be the newly activated 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT), while the American contingent will include stryker units.
Opening ceremony for the said exercise was held February 27 attended by US Army 7th Infantry Division commander Major General Willard M. Burleson III and Philippine Army 7th Infantry Division acting commander Brigadier General Lenard T. Agustin.
Salaknib will include Jungle Field Training Exercise (FTX), Command Post Exercise (CPX), Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), Cooperative Health Engagements (CHE), and Humanitarian Civic Action (HCA) projects.
Exercise proper will be held in Fort Magsaysay, Palayan, Nueva Ecija and Col. Ernesto Rabina Air Base, Capas, Tarlac from March 4 to 24.
“The exercise will contribute to and enhance U.S. and Philippine defense readiness and tactical interoperability while strengthening multinational relationships,” the US Embassy in Manila said.
