The Philippine Navy’s future BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), the first of two ordered frigates from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) was launched today in South Korea.
Moreover, the formal construction of the second frigate, future BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) started also today during a keel laying ceremony.
Delivery of frigates is expected 2020 and 2021.
“All of us are equally thrilled that we will soon be deploying a brand-new frigate, with anti-submarine, anti-surface, anti-air, and electronic warfare capability to patrol and protect our vast territorial waters,” Philippine Navy spokesperson Captain Jonathan Zata said as quoted by PNA.
“These frigates are built based on the Incheon/FFX-I/HDF-3000-type multi-purpose frigate of the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN), which offers increased operational performance and enhanced survivability,” Zata added.
