PHL signs contract with Korean firm for upgrade of Del Pilar ships

The Department of National Defense (DND) and South Korean firm Hanwha Systems signed conducted the contract signing for the PHP1,304,200,000.00 Del Pilar-class ship upgrade project on August 27.

The Philippine Nay is operating three Del Pilar-class offshore patrol vessels: BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PS-15), BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16), BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS-17).

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana signed the Notice of Award (NOA) on August 6, 2019 in favor of Hanwha. The NOA was conformed by Hanwha on August 15.

According to MaxDefense Philippines, the project involves: Supply and Installation of a new Combat Management System (CMS), Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS), and Radar Electronic Support Measures (R-ESM).

MaxDefense added that Hanwha will integrate the existing subsystems of the ship including the navigation and weapon systems like the Oto Melara 76mm gun and BAE Systems Mk.38 Mod2/3 25mm guns, as well as new items delivered by the US government like the Saab AN/SPS-77 Sea Giraffe AMB 3D radar and SeaFLIR turrets.
