PHL putting up lighthouses in West Philippine Sea

The Philippines is putting up Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) lighthouses in West Philippine Sea to aid safe navigation in the territory. This was bared by National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr. during the May 30 Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

“As a matter of safety of life at sea, we are contributing since it is our responsibilities also, we are also putting up lighthouses,” Secretary Esperon said.

“Kung makikita naman ninyo, ‘dun sa reclaimed islands ng China napakadaming lighthouses,” he said.

He said putting up lighthouses is normal. “To aid navigation in the area we are putting up several lighthouses,” he said.

Among the Philippine-controlled islands in Spratly Islands in where lighthouses will be established are Pag-asa Island, Likas Island, Parola Island, and Kota Island.

“We will also repair the runway in Pag-asa so that we could give provisions to our troops there,” he added. “We are doing all of these quietly.”

“We also have a fish landing facility in Pag-asa now. Natural lang kasi we have a fishing community sa Pag-asa,” he said.
