PHL, Korea looking to establish nuclear facility in CEZA

Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) are looking into the possibility of conducting a feasibility study for the establishment of nuclear energy facility within Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) in Cagayan Valley Region.

The DOE said Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, Undersecretary Donato D. Marcos, and Assistant Secretary Gerardo D. Erguiza Jr. met with officials of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) led by its President/CEO, Mr. Chung Jae Hoon on June 5.

Among the topics discussed was the possible study on 100-MW modular reactor in CEZA.

“During the discussions, DOE and KHNP explored energy cooperation endeavors, including the possibility of conducting a feasibility study on the establishment of a small, 100-MW modular reactor in the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority,” DOE said.
