PHL fires off protest over recent swarming of Chinese fishing vessels near Pag-asa Island

“Diplomatic protest fired off,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said in his Twitter account July 31.

This is after National Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. said that 113 Chinese fishing vessels were monitored off Pag-asa Island in July 24 to 25.

“I have recommended diplomatic action in regards to that,” Esperon said during a Kapihan sa Manila Bay. Esperon said they are in process of knowing the reason behind the increase of Chinese vessels.

“Ngunit huwag kayo mabahala dahil as of now – kung noong July 25 ay hitik na hitik – ngayon ay nawala ‘yung mga fishing boats doon. Kahapon wala na [because of bad weather],” Secretary Esperon said, showing a latest photo from Pag-asa Island. “Ito ngayon ang Pag-asa, iisa nalang ‘yung [Chinese] coast guard vessel doon, fishing boat 3 nalang.”
