PHL eyes joining human trials for Chinese COVID-19 vaccine

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said on June 11 that the Philippines is in talks with Beijing-based biotech firm for possibility of joining human trial phase of a COVID-19 vaccine.

There is an approval for collaboration with 4 Chinese groups and 1 UK firm. However, DOST Secretary dela Peña said Chinese firm Sinovac Biotech is the one that is in most advance phase of development.

The science and technology secretary noted that they are negotiating for a Filipino firm to get license to manufacture if the vaccine to be tested becomes a success.
