PHL developing iconic tower to honor military service

Arup and Henning Larsen Architects have signed a joint venture agreement to deliver the detailed architectural and engineering design of the Icone Tower of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

This iconic tower which aims to honor and recognize service being rendered by the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will rise at 11th Avenue corner 11th Drive, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Philippines.

The proposed 275-meter tower will feature areas dedicated to the Filipino troops, public plaza that promote engagement, exhibition and conference spaces, a rooftop observatory, dining facilities, and a new corporate office for the BCDA, Arup said.

“The project will be designed out of Henning Larsen’s Hong Kong office led by Design Director Claude Bøjer Godefroy and Managing Director Elva Tang, with Arup providing total engineering services from Hong Kong and Manila offices led by Director YL Cheng,” Arup said.

BCDA said “the iconic building is envisioned to create an identifying edifice for Bonifacio Global City the way some architectural landmarks have done for the leading cities in the world. It will have an area to honor the Armed Forces of the Philippines, premium office spaces and retail areas.”

On January 22, BCDA conducted the pre-bidding conference as it looks for a partner in the actual development of the said iconic tower.

Icone Tower is projected to be completed by end of 2021.
