PHL considers Australia as ‘close partner’ in international law, maritime security – Duterte


“We consider Australia a close partner in upholding international law, including UNCLOS, and in promoting maritime security,” President Rodrigo Duterte said in his phone conversation with Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison on November 30, according to Palace statement.

President Duterte also thanked Australia for its formal manifestation before the United Nations affirming the Arbitral Award on the South China Sea issue.

He also thanked Australia for assistance extended for victims of recent typhoons and also for country’s COVID-19 response.


He also noted that Philippines is looking forward to the adoption of a Plan of Action to further implement the Joint Declaration of the Philippines-Australia Comprehensive Partnership.

Prime Minister Morrison expressed committment to further strengthen Australia-Philippines cooperation and partnership on areas of mutual interest.
