PHL Coast Guard rescues Chinese from drowning

Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Santa Ana in the province of Cagayan, Cagayan Valley region successfully rescued a Chinese national, who tried to swim back to China, from drowning at vicinity 300 meters off Country Inn Beach Resort, Brgy. Centro, Santa Ana last Sunday, June 24.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said a certain Mr. James Villanueva, 51 years old, resident of Brgy. Palawig, Sta Ana together with Philippine National Police (PNP) Santa Ana personnel reported to CGSS Santa Ana that while underway from a fishing venture he sighted a body floating at the aforementioned area.

Upon receiving the report, CGSS Santa Ana together with Mr. Villanueva proceeded vicinity to conduct search and rescue operations.

“Upon arrival thereat, the team sighted and successfully retrieved the body of a female nearly drowning per information gathered from the interpreter, the victim was identified as Ms. Xiong Won Jing, female, 18 years of age, single and a Chinese National,” PCG said.

According to PCG report, Ms. Xiong just resigned as an employee of Eastern Hawaii Casino in Cagayan and due to depression she attempted to swim back to China.

Xiong was brought to Santa Ana Community Hospital in Brgy. Centro for medical attention where she was found to be in good physical condition by the attending physician. She was turned-over to Mr. Rudy Chandra, Human Resource Officer of Eastern Hawaii Casino.
