Philippine Army commanding general Lieutenant General Gilbert I. Gapay met with Australian Ambassador to Philippines Steven J. Robinson in a video teleconference on June 4.

Lieutenant General Gapay said that while engagements with the Australian Army were affected by the ongoing pandemic, army planners are coordinating so that joint exercises and trainings can resume as soon as possible.

“Our ties with our global partners remain strong. Although much of our significant engagements with the Australian Army have been cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic, our planners are in constant coordination such that trainings and exercises can be conducted once conditions permit,” said Gapay.

According to Philippine Army, Gapay and Robinson discussed matters concerning the state of the country and the Army’s involvement amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lieutenant General Gapay also extended the Army’s gratitude towards the Australian Government for donating supplies for the country’s medical frontliners.
