PHL Army wants to acquire supersonic cruise missile in bid to becoming world-class

“The Philippine Army is interested in acquiring this type of missile as it will strengthen our coastal defense operations,” Philippine Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ramon P. Zagala said in a statement after Army officials led by Vice Commander Major General Reynaldo M. Aquino visited Indian Navy Ship Sahyadri at Pier 15 in Manila on October 24.

The said Indian Navy warship is armed with supersonic cruise missile BrahMos.

The Army said that in line with the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Integrated Missile Defense System program, it aims to advance its coordination with the Philippine Navy and Air Force in the safeguarding the country from external threats.

It can be recalled that the Army activated its first land-based Missile System Battery under the Army Artillery Regiment earlier this month.

“The Philippine Army puts premium in upgrading the various areas of its defense capabilities as it plays a vital role in addressing external threats. We ensure the Filipino people that we are on a continuous endeavor of becoming a world-class Army ready to protect our country,” Lieutenant Colonel Zagala said.
