Philippines sets red lines on West Philippine Sea dispute

Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano during the May 28 Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) flag-raising ceremony said that the Philippines has set some red lines in dealing with China on West Philippine Sea dispute.

Cayetano said the first red line is China could not build in Scarborough Shoal. Second red line is China should not attempt to remove BRP Sierra Madre from Ayungin Shoal.

Another red line is resupply missions and repairs should not be harassed.

“Isa pang red line natin, walang kukuha ng natural resources doon on their own,” Cayetano said.

Secretary Cayetano said that President Rodrigo Duterte will go to war if anyone gets natural resources in the disputed waters on their own.

“Sinabi ng Pangulo ‘yan. If anyone gets the natural resources in the West Philippine Sea, he will go to war. Sabi niya, bahala na. He will go to war,” Cayetano said.
