The Philippine Navy is scheduled to decommission Miguel Malvar-class patrol ship BRP Sultan Kudarat (PS-22) on Friday, July 5. This is being done as the Navy expects newer assets to enter service.
The decommissioning ceremony will be held at Captain Naval Base Heracleo Alano, Sangley Point, Cavite.
“This is part of the phase-in/phase-out of Philippine Navy floating assets. In preparation for our more capable and modern platforms, we also have to decommission older platforms,” Philippine Fleet commander Rear Admiral Giovanni Bacordo said as quoted by Inquirer.
“This has been planned before already,” Rear Admiral Bacordo said. “Kung may newer assets tayo, saan mo kukunin ang personnel manning of these assets? We get it from the vessels that will be decommissioned.”
The Philippine Navy is expecting the arrival of BRP Conrado Yap, donated former South Korean Pohang-class corvette, this quarter.
