Philippine Navy officials visit French submarine maker’s facilities

Philippine Navy officials led by Flag Officer-in-Command Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, together with Department of National Defense (DND) officials visited Naval Group facilities in France.

“We were honoured to welcome Philippine Navy and Department of National Defense – Philippines during their official visit in France for the Submarine Force creation project,” Naval Group said.

“Beside bilateral talks, the Philippine delegation visited our site in Toulon to discover our complete range of services to create, train and support a submarine force and in Cherbourg to tour the construction yard: a place steeped in history and using the best industrial technologies,” it added.

Naval Group, according to its website, designs, builds, integrates, provides in-service support, dismantles and deconstructs submarines and surface ships.

In November 2020, Naval Group announced that it is opening a “representation office in the Philippines to be operated in Manila.”

Naval Group noted that “the opening signifies the first step of a long-term commitment of cooperation and partnership in developing naval capabilities for the country.”

The French company added that it “aims to bring to the Philippines its breadth of experience and unrivalled technical expertise in ships and submarines with combat systems and all critical equipment and services necessary to engage naval power in a theatre of operations.”
