The Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) is set to retire another Pohang-class corvette before the year ends and the Philippine Navy is eyeing to get it through hot transfer, Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad told reporters on November 11 at the anniversary celebration of Philippine Marine Corps.
The Philippine Navy is now operating BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39), a former Pohang-class corvette donated by South Korea.
“If we can communicate with them na pwede ibigay sa atin through hot transfer bago ilagay sa shipyard, baka pwede na i-deliver sa atin,” Vice Admiral Empedrad said as quoted by Inquirer.net.
“South Korea government said the Philippines is a priority because of our close relations. Lagi silang nagpapasalamat nung nagpadala tayo ng contingent during Korean war,” he added.
