Philippine Navy assists in rescue of 31 fishermen in West Philippine Sea

The Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces West (NFW), through BRP Emilio Jacinto (PS35), has assisted in successful rescue of 31 fishermen in West Philippine Sea on May 24.

“Reportedly, FB Pauline 2 had a hole on its freeboard since late of May 22, 2021 and began to take in seawater. Immediately, the boat captain of FB Pauline 2, identified as Mr Placido Asusina, called for distress signal to alert any boats in the vicinity. This distress signal was received by FB Española which in turn relayed the information to NFW before proceeding to FB Pauline 2 to render assistance,” NFW said.

Naval Forces West noted that “upon receipt of the information and upon the guidance of Headquarters Western Command, thereafter immediately directed all available ships but it was Brp Emilio Jacinto (PS35) who was patrolling in the area, that arrived first and immediately rendered further assistance to the distressed fishing boat.”

“Upon arrival at the area on May 24 2021 at around 12 noon, the 31 fishermen were received on board PS35 where they were medically checked, given food and given accommodation,” it said.
