PCG’s upcoming 5 new ships getting French engines

News

MTU France will be providing a total of ten engines of Series 4000 and 2000 for Philippine Coast Guard’s 82-meter offshore patrol vessel 270 (OPV 270), and 4 units of 24-meter fast patrol boat 72 (FPB 72) to be built by French shipbuilder OCEA.

MTU said the OPV will be powered by two 16V 4000 M73 engines. IT is also supplying the automation system Blue Vision New Generation for the vessel.

“OCEA convinced the customer with a competitive and environmentally friendly concept: Thanks to efficient engines and an aluminum hull, the OPV will emit 40% less CO2 than comparable vessels,” MTU said.

MTU added that the 4 FPBs will be powered by two 10V 2000 M72 MTU engines.

In September 2017, the Certificate of Contract Effectiveness for the implementation of the Philippine Ports and Coast Guard Capability Development Project was signed by the Department of Transportation and OCEA.

The five vessels will be acquired through Philippine Ports and Coast Guard Capability Development Project.

“The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2018 for the 4 FPB 72 and in 2019 for the OPV 270,” OCEA said.
