PCG’s BRP Tubbataha now armed with Remote Controlled Weapon Station from Israel

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)’s Multi-role Response Vessel (MRRV) BRP Tubbataha (MRRV-4401) is now armed with 12.7mm caliber Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) from Israel.

BRP Tubbataha armed with 12.7 RCWS was presented to Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade during the 118th Founding Anniversary celebration of PCG today, October 10.

BRP Tubbataha, commissioned October 2016, is the lead ship of 10 Parola-class MRRVs built and delivered by Japan Marine United. Delivery was completed in August 2018.

The acquisition project was funded through soft loan extended by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The 44-meter MRRVs were acquired for the purpose of:

Primary rescue vessels within the PCG Districts’ areas of responsibility (AOR) when the extent of the disaster is beyond the capability of floating assets deployed within the area;

Assistance in the control of oil pollution and protection of the marine environment;

Enforcement of applicable maritime laws within the designated AOR, particularly relating to illegal fishing and sea patrol;

Service as platform for rapid response during relief operations in the area;

Transport of personnel and logistical support.
