A team of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officials visited Russia last week “to take a closer look at Russian equipment and weapons,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta said.
“The team was composed of Capt. Juan Manuel Ramos, Acting Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Comptrollership and Cdr. Philipps Soria, Acting Commanander, Coast Guard Air Force,” Ambassador Sorreta said.
He said that the PCG previously examined Russian equipment and weapons and are now deep in discussions for a first set of possible procurement.
He added that the PCG officials looked at a possible second set of items for procurement.
“Any procurement will be made only if it is the best deal that the Philippines can get. It will be under an agreed legal framework and pursuant to our procurement laws and regulations,” he said.
