Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Parola-class patrol vessel BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) has conducted rescue and firefighting operations after MV Filipinas Dinagat caught fire at the vicinity waters 5.5 nautical miles east off Binongkalan Point, Cebu at around 10:45 pm July 23.
Firefighting operations extended until July 24.
PCG said it arrived at the incident area with the Philippine-registered RoRo/passenger ship owned by Cokaliong Shipping Lines already totally engulfed in fire.
“The shipowner reported that all ship crew aboard MV Filipinas Dinagat were safe and all accounted for, hence the declaration of a ‘zero-casualty’ maritime incident,” PCG said.
“MV Filipinas Dinagat left Pier 1, Cebu City at around 07:00 p.m. on 23 July 2020 bound for Palompon, Leyte. Investigation about the cause of fire onboard is ongoing,” PCG added.
