PCG searching for missing fisherman in Scarborough Shoal

UPDATED: An operation is currently ongoing to search for a Filipino fisherman in vicinity waters of Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc) in West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

PCG said it deployed Parola-class patrol vessel BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4402) to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operations for a missing fisherman in the vicinity waters off Bajo de Masinloc on August 1.

“At around 05:00 p.m. on Friday, 31 July 2020, the PCG Station – Subic received a report that 42-year old Mr. Luz Piliin of Barangay Mangan Vaca, Subic, Zambales went missing at said vicinity waters after failing to return when tasked to survey for fish catch using a small boat,” PCG said.

PCG noted that Piliin’s fellow fishermen aboard FB Renz Ronel believed that he might encountered big waves and strong winds while surveying the vicinity waters.

“Other fishermen who tried to look for him failed to do so due to inclement weather,” it added.

PCG said BRP Malabrigo was sent immediately after ensuring that the weather condition is stable and safe for the SAR team.

“PCG’s Islander Plane also augmented the SAR operations,” it added.
