Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque today, January 27 confirmed that Philippine Army chief Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana will succeed current Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff General Gilbert Gapay.
General Gapay will reach the mandatory age of retirement on February 4.
“We are confident that General Sobejana will continue to modernize our military and undertake reform initiatives to make the Armed Forces truly professional in its mandate as the protector of the people and the State,” Secretary Roque said.
“We wish General Sobejana all the best in his new tour of duty as we pray for his success,” he added.
Prior to becoming Army commanding general, Lieutenant General Sobejana was commander of AFP Western Mindanao Command.
