Republic of Poland Ambassador to the Philippines Jarosław Szczepankiewicz has confirmed in a statement published on Business Mirror June 10 that the first six of 16 ordered S-70i Black Hawk helicopters for Philippine Air Force (PAF) are arriving before this year ends.

“The purchase of 16 S-70i combat-utility helicopters manufactured by the Polish Aviation Works-Mielec (PZL-Mielec) is an excellent example of cooperation between our two countries,” Ambassador Szczepankiewicz said.

“By the end of 2020, PZL-Mielec will hand over the first six units of S-70i Black Hawk helicopters to the PAF under a contract signed in 2019,” he added.

National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told Senate in January 2019 that though built in Poland, the S-70i Black Hawk helicopters will be certified by US-based Lockheed Martin Sikorsky.

“In fact the training of our pilots will be done in Florida,” Secretary Lorenzana noted. “So all the manuals and everything will be in English.”
