At least nine suspected members of Abu Sayyaf terrorist group were killed during a military assault supported by FA-50PH jets and mortar fires in Mahatalang, Sumisip, Basilan on Wednesday, May 2 the military revealed on Friday, May 4.
According to report by ABS-CBN News, citing information from 4th Special Forces Battalion, the firefight ensued between the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion and the bandits led by Furuji Indama.
The report added, Philippine Air Force 3rd Tactical Operations Wing provided air support using FA-50PH jets. It added that the 8th Field Artillery Battalion provided fire support.
Joint Task Force Basilan commander Brigadier General Juvy Max Uy said members of the Abu Sayyaf who previously surrendered to the government helped them in tracking down the whereabouts of Indama’s group.
He added that the movements of Indama’s group has been limited to the forest areas of Sumisip.
