President Rodrigo Duterte revealed during the 120th anniversary celebration of the Philippine Navy that National Security Adviser Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon Jr. is currently in Jordan to accept the two 2 Bell AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters offered by King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein.
“I don’t know if I am really supposed to make it public and I really do not have a way of knowing whether it should make Esperon happy or not,” the President said. “But in my table – I was late because I was reviewing it – Jordan is giving us 2 Cobra helicopters, those things we really can’t afford maybe in my term.”
He said Secretary Esperon stopped him from attacking UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein, a cousin of the King of Jordan, because the offer might be jeopardized.
“I would have wanted to [rebut] but Esperon said do not do it,” Duterte said. “He was the one who worked for it, he’s now there in Jordan. I got this electronic copy for his authority to accept it.”
The 2 Cobra attack helicopters will be operated by the Philippine Air Force.
