No ‘special Cabinet meeting’ was scheduled: Panelo

Presidential Spokesperson and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo said during June 17 press conference that there was no special Cabinet meeting that was called to tackle the Recto (Reed) Bank incident between Chinese and Filipino fishing vessels.

“In the first place there is no special Cabinet meeting on the Recto Bank. Who said na meron? Regular ‘yung cluster Cabinet meeting,” Secretary Panelo said when asked about the cancelling of the special Cabinet meeting.

“Whether that will be taken up or not, ‘di natin alam kung anong magiging agenda doon,” Panelo added.

When asked why there was a need to cancel the special Cabinet meeting, Panelo said probably there was a miscommunication between Cabinet meeting and cluster Cabinet meeting.

On Sunday, June 6, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles explained that what was scheduled for June 17 was a cluster Cabinet meeting which may involve the Economic Development and Security, Justice, and Peace clusters. Nograles added that the Recto Bank incident will most likely be tackled.
