No need for coup d’etat, just tell me to step down: Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte has told the members of the uniformed services not to waste time and look silly launching coup d’état. He said the officers just need to talk to him and if he is convinced with their reason he will step down as president.

“[I]f you think that I do not deserve to be there, just tell me. I’d be happy to oblige. Hindi ako – hindi ako. Pagod na rin ako,” President Duterte said during the send off ceremony of 250 transport vehicles for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Laguna on September 26.

“Pupunta kayo sa harap magdala kayo ng mga mechanized – You know, you would look silly. Do not do that. Just go to my office tapos mag-usap tayo. I will hear you,” he added.

He said “if you think that – o tama ka matanda na talaga ako at hindi na ako makakapagtrabaho or I am longer – no longer be able to articulate what I should be doing in government, just tell me. Do not go into such stupid things as coup d’état, coup d’état or what.”

“You’re wasting your time. Just talk to me. And if I think that you are right, I will agree with you and I will step down. Uwi na ako sa amin,” he added. “Pero ‘pag nasira ‘yang mga sasakyan ninyo, huwag kayong lumapit sa akin para ayusin ‘yan. Bahala kayo sa buhay ninyo.”
