The Philippine National Police (PNP), afternoon of March 12, denied reports circulating on social media that it issued an order to put the National Capital Region (NCR) on lockdown amid the rising number of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID19) cases.
“Contrary to some reports circulating in the social media, please be advised that the PNP has not issued any order for a lockdown in the NCR,” the PNP said in a statement.
It explained that the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is the agency that can issue such an order to address the current public health emergency.
“Nonetheless, the PNP is continuously enhancing its preparations to address any contingency. We will update you of any development as the need arises,” the PNP added.
