New Fleet-Marine base in Zamboanga City put to service

The Philippine Navy and Zamboanga City government have inaugurated Naval Station Rio Hondo on October 4 in Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City.

The naval station will serve as detachment for Philippine Navy’s Fleet-Marine units to help safeguard the city after the infamous Zamboanga City Siege in September 2013.

“The detachment is expected to complement the existing patrol base in the area and ensure maritime interdiction of approaching sea-going lawless elements,” Zamboanga City government said.

Mayor Beng Climaco described the inauguration event as very special and dedicated the same to the memory of the military troops who offered their lives in defense of the city and its people during the 2013 siege.
