Navy’s newest frigate sails near Pag-asa Island on heroes’ day

The Philippine Navy’s newest frigate Jose Rizal-class BRP Antonio Luna (FF151) sailed near Pag-asa Island in West Philippine Sea on National Heroes Day.

“The Philippine Navy’s newest Missile Frigate, BRP Antonio Luna FF 151, named after one of the country’s national heroes, conducts maritime patrol near Pag-asa Island, Municipality of Kalayaan on National Heroes Day,” the Department of National Defense (DND) said August 31.

On the same day, Joint Task Unit (JTU) Pag-asa composed of Philippine Navy personnel and other uniformed services from the Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), as well as civilian residents of the island-municipality, commemorated the National Heroes Day at Pag-asa Island.

The Naval Forces West said the event began with a Flag-raising Ceremony on Aug 30, 2021, which was led by the residents of Pagasa.

“Inclusive of the singing of the national anthem, reading of “Panunumpa sa Katapatan”, “Panatang Makabayan” and singing of “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” was also conducted. This activity shows not only the celebration of the sacrifices of our Philippine Heroes but also the recognition of AFP personnel who died in the performance of their duties and responsibilities as a soldier, and our present heroes in the different government sectors who continuously battle the COVID-19 pandemic for the sake of all Filipino people,” the Naval Forces West said.
