Navy’s corvette BRP Conrado Yap comes to Cebu

Philippine Navy’s Naval Forces Central (NAVFORCEN) warmly welcomed BRP Conrado Yap (PS-39) through a ceremony upon it’s arrival at Malacañang sa Sugbo with MGEN ROBERTO T ANCAN AFP, Commander, Central Command as the guest of honor and speaker on November 16.

“The Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas CONRADO YAD (BRP CONRADO YAP, PS-39) is the first modern general purpose corvette acquired by the Philippine Navy from the Republic of Korea,” NAVFORCEN said.

“It is a Pohang- class corvette named after a Philippine Soldier and Veteran who fought in the Korean War in the 1950’s,” it added.

BRP Conrado Yap is the former Republic of Korean Navy CHUNGJU (PCC-762) and have served in a coastal defense role during the late Cold War and Post Cold War period.

“It was later transferred to the Philippine government as commissioned vessel in the Philippine Navy last 24 September 2018,” NAVFORCEN said. “Moreover, Cebuano’s are invited to experience the navy way of life during PS- 39’s Open Ship on 18-19 November 2019 from 0900H-1200H and 1300H-1600H.”
