The cargo ship was traversing at Sulu Sea, 35NM East of Puerto Princesa City (PPC), NFW said.

“Upon receiving the call at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon from the Philippine Coastguard (PCG)-Palawan, the NFW were informed that MV Evangelia Skipper, Captain Ernesto Abuan, requested for an immediate medical treatment to one of his crew named Mr Tambo Santos Jr who suffered face burn caused by the explosion of one of their air-conditioning unit,” NFW said.

NFW said it immediately dispatched the Naval Air Unit West (NAU-W) personnel together with Western Command (WESCOM) medical personnel aboard the AW109 helicopter.

“At around 5:30 pm of the same day, the team successfully landed at the said cargo ship, promptly conducted medical assessment of the physical condition of Mr Santos, and airlifted him to PPC,” NFW said.

“The victim, together with the Medical team, arrived at Philippine Air Force Hangar, Puerto Princesa City at around 6 pm and he was brought to Camp General Artemio Ricarte Station Hospital (CGARSH) for further medical treatment,” it added.
