Navy sends off BRP Ramon Alcaraz for 1st US-ASEAN Maritime Exercise

The Philippine Navy today, August 29 sent off offshore patrol vessel BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16) with Naval Task Group 80.5 to participate in the first United States-ASEAN Maritime Exercise.

The Philippine Navy offshore patrol vessel will be sailing to Thailand to join partner nations for the said maritime exercise from September 2 to 6.

According to Philippine Navy, its participation in the said exercise aims to convey its commitment in enhancing relationship and promote military exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN members states and United States.

“The ASEAN-US Maritime Exercise aims to promote maritime safety, freedom of navigation and overflight, and unimpeded commerce in accordance with the universally recognized principles of the international law,” the Philippine Navy said.

The maritime exercise has a theme “Enhancing Shared Awareness and Interoperability in the Maritime Domain.”
