This project is an interagency initiative which included the efforts of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute and National Institue of Physics, Technological University of the Philippines, and Diskursong Teritoryo for concept, development, and execution. The project was supported by the Department of Science and Technology.

Other personalities gracing the event were legislator and environment champion, Sen. Loren Legarda, Dept. of Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Pena, and some prominent members of the academe, maritime industry, and the defense sector.

The MMNC showcases more than 30 interactive exhibits on maritime resources, history, and security, with special emphasis on the role of the PN in securing the maritime interest of the country. Artworks featuring marine life and livelihood, and copy of the Murillo Velarde 1934 Map, regarded by historians as the “mother of all Philippine maps” are also featured during the event.
